Graduation Process

  1. The Graduation Process is a process of learning to search the self and articulate what is found.
  2. The main requirements for graduation are a demonstration of the following:
    1. The graduate is aware that he or she is in charge of his or her life.
    2. The graduate is aware of being responsible for his or her actions.
    3. The graduate is aware of his or her major emotional issues.
  3. The aspiring graduate (Aspirant) must have been at The Tutorial School for 2 years or have been a senior when enrolled who has demonstrated the above.
  4. Tuition must be fully paid.
  5. The Aspirant meets regularly (at least twice a month) during the final year of school with a Thesis Advisor. If the Thesis Advisor is not a staff member, ASC approval will be required.
  6. A proposal must be submitted to the Graduation Committee by the first school day in January, including a plan for a senior project and an essay of reasonable length on, "Why I am ready to graduate." This can be a summary or outline for your thesis . It must include some proof of steps #1 and #2.
  7. The Graduation Committee will then recommend the Aspirant to continue the process, to wait a year or more, or that graduation will only be possible with a great deal of effort.
  8. The Aspirant must receive approval from the ASC by February 1st to continue the graduation process and present a thesis that spring.
  9. The senior project must be completed by May 1st.
  10. The rough draft of the thesis is due 3 weeks before the Thesis Defense.
  11. The Aspirants meet and plan the graduation ceremony.
  12. The thesis must be approved by the Thesis Advisor.
  13. The thesis must be approved by the Graduation Committee.
  14. The Aspirants present and defend the thesis to an audience of students, staff, families and friends.
  15. Graduate.
