November 2017 Volume 26 Number 2

Children changing their costumes, enacting the transitions and changes we see in the leaves and foliage around us. Plants are changing their costumes too or hiding deep in the autumn earth with the animals. It is a time to go deep within – to look at ourselves and our patterns and try to unpack all the complicated and occluded desires, the parts of ourselves that cry out for love. When we change a deep seated habit it can feel like a little death, like we are letting go of a part of ourselves that no longer serves us and may even cause suffering. The changes may seem subtle, but rest assured the students of The Tutorial School are doing the hard work. In time, and it could be years, the fruits of their labor will carry them through the rest of their lives.

Sleepover success! The yearly Halloween sleepover is one of the most exciting events of the year – a night of food, costumes, and playing spooky games in the dark. Not only was the party an exceptionally fun one, but the morning after proved to be successful as well. Students took the initiative to begin cleaning early; they were moving furniture, vacuuming, taking out trash, and fulfilling their promise to leave the school cleaner than before. It is an impressive thing to follow through, as well as to contribute to one’s community. Our students have shown both. We feel proud to see their ongoing growth and hope you do as well.

Since the sleepover included a parent potluck we decided to move the November 15th potluck to December 7th. The parent potluck and meeting is an excellent opportunity to share your concerns and parenting issues with other parents and to support the community that your children are building.

Snow Days! Check our online calendar for the most up to date info on delays and cancellations. In general we will follow the Santa Fe Public School system – but not always. Sometimes we can tell the night before that there will be a delay at least. Also, we will often post a cancellation for Friday. You can ignore those 😉

We have received a generous donation of beefy computers and laptops – more than we can use. So we have decided to raffle off 3 of them. That’s right, 3 HP Elitebook 8560p laptops with 2.70 GHz core i7-2620M 64 bit cpu’s, 4 GB RAM, and 232 GB hard drives (or similar) and loaded with licensed windows 10 pro. The raffle will be Tuesday, November 21st at the All School Council meeting. Tickets are one for $10 or three for $20. The raffle is only open to TTS students so they will have a good chance of winning.

Thanksgiving vacation will be Wednesday and Thursday, November 22nd and 23rd. Winter break begins December 18th. School starts again on Monday, January 8th.

If there is anything that we wish to change in the child, we should first examine it and see whether it is not something that could better be changed in ourselves. — Carl Jung
